Brake System Maintenance – Details Determine Driving Safety
The brake system is the “life-saving device” of a car. Daily maintenance needs to focus on three core components: brake pads, brake discs, and brake fluid. There is no fixed replacement cycle for brake pads; it needs to be judged according to driving habits. When the thickness of the brake pads is less than 3mm (about the thickness of a coin), or there is abnormal noise when stepping on the brakes, or the braking distance becomes significantly longer, they need to be replaced in time. When replacing the brake pads, you can check the brake discs synchronously. If the surface of the brake disc has deep grooves (more than 0.3mm), deformation, or uneven wear, it needs to be ground or replaced. In terms of brake fluid, it is recommended to replace it every 2 years or 40,000 kilometers. Brake fluid is hygroscopic; long-term non-replacement will lead to a decrease in boiling point, which is prone to air resistance at high temperatures and affects braking effect. When replacing, select the brake fluid model matching the vehicle, and bleed the air in the brake system after replacement to avoid brake failure. In addition, if you find that the brake pedal is soft or the vehicle deviates during daily driving, it needs to be inspected and repaired in time to eliminate brake caliper faults.
